Aon Broker Henry Yuan Recognized as a 2020 Health Care Power Broker
Henry Yuan, Vice President/Account Executive, Aon
AMN Healthcare Inc., a national health care staffing firm, was looking for ways to better utilize a captive insurance company, even if the risk fell outside the traditional lines of insurance it manages.
For assistance, it turned to Henry Yuan, who suggested placing a slice of its employee health benefits retention inside the captive.
It was an innovative idea, particularly since benefits are traditionally managed by HR, not risk management. After Yuan discovered AMN was expecting its premiums and retention to increase year over year, he educated its HR team about how a captive works and how it could be used to fund some of AMN’s risk.
Armed with historical data, Aon advised AMN to request various higher-deductible options. They found the sweet spot at $500,000.
Alaina Chapman, manager of AMN’s risk department, is thrilled with how Yuan solves problems, including having the intuition to seek input from other experts when he may not have all the answers or he wants to learn more.
“Beyond bringing his own expertise to the table, Henry knows when we would benefit from direct collaboration with Aon’s strong bench of experts,” said Chapman.
Whether managing M&A risk, staying on top of industry trends, or supporting AMN’s organic evolution, Chapman said, “Henry is a vital partner whose efforts have helped us achieve a more than 20% decrease in our total cost of risk, or TCOR, since he began working on our account.”
