An Impressive Tally: Congratulating the Power Broker Class of 2026
One of the joys of language, at least for sports fans, is the way sports terminology is now and then employed in regular, non-sporting discourse.
You’ll hear horse racing phrases like “hasn’t put a foot wrong” or “straight out of the gate” to describe an employee’s performance or the early success of a business venture.
Those of us who are passionate soccer/football fans get a kick (no pun intended) out of the expression “the ball’s in the back of the net.”
Goals in that sport are rare enough that they tend to be celebrated with some gusto, and to hear the phrase in common conversation can be at once amusing and uplifting.
As we edited the profiles of this year’s crop of Power Broker winners, that phrase, “the ball’s in the back of the net,” kept bubbling up into my consciousness.
Like successful attackers in soccer, the brokers we celebrate here had to navigate numerous obstacles and employ breathtaking creativity to deliver solutions for their clients.
Buyers of insurance, the insureds, told us story after story along the lines of brokers who exceeded their expectations.
In some cases the risk manager expected to get walloped by heavy premium increases only to see the hard work and networking capabilities of the broker result in more modest increases or even reductions. In other cases, coverage that seemed impossible to assemble came together; due, happily to the tireless work of a broker who burned the midnight oil to serve their client.
They saw, they shot, they scored. Welcome to the Power Broker class of 2026. &
