AXA XL Names Matt Waters Head of Large Commercial and Specialty

AXA XL announced the appointment of Matt Waters as head of its Large Commercial and Specialty business unit, effective immediately.

In his new role, Waters will lead AXA XL’s Large Commercial and Specialty lines portfolio across the U.S., Canada, and Bermuda, with a focus on driving profitable growth, enhancing underwriting discipline, and strengthening broker and client relationships across North America.

Waters joined AXA XL in 2022 to launch its Mid-Market business in the Americas, where he consistently exceeded growth expectations while maintaining rigorous underwriting discipline. Before joining AXA XL, he spent 25 years at Liberty Mutual in senior leadership positions across property/casualty segments, including Construction and Energy.

Jim DiVirgilio, AXA XL’s recently retired chief claims officer, will temporarily lead the Mid-Market team while a search for new leadership is conducted. &
