Few insurance segments are as tricky today as medical professional liability, where insurers are withdrawing capacity and tightening underwriting as a reaction to a proliferation of lawsuits and social inflation. Michael Mannix obtains the best possible terms and conditions for clients in this challenging market.
Lindsay Lollio, assistant general counsel at Rush University System for Health, said that Mannix is particularly helpful when finding new products that could be a good fit for a
particular risk exposure.
“He is always coming up with new ideas for us to navigate what would otherwise be too costly a market for us and to make sure that we have the best coverage available,” she said. The ability to keep markets engaged with the client was shown in 2025, when Rush had estimated that rates for its hospital professional liability program would go up by 25%, but Mannix was able to keep the hike at 18%.
Larry Smith, vice president, corporate risk management services at MedStar Health, said that Mannix has been very helpful in making sure that his senior leadership understand that some carriers with a A- rating are only that because they are new to the market.
“However, they often bring great talent from other markets where they have worked and are very well funded,” he said.
