Swagelok Co. has a lot riding on its risk management.

The manufacturer operates an insurance captive and offers a lifetime warranty for its products, high-pressure valves and fittings used in unforgiving places, including the deep sea and outer space, said George Papuga, director of risk and audit for Swagelok.

When the company entered the market in 2019 for umbrella and excess coverage, it was happy to have Warren Printz on its side, Papuga said.

“He’s been instrumental and a huge part of our team. We look at him as an extension of our department. That’s what you want from a broker.”

Clients also want results, and Printz delivered despite a challenging market, Papuga said.

“Warren was able to get us pretty consistent terms year over year, which is what we were looking for, and from a costing perspective, we did not see much of an increase.”

Printz achieved similar results for a client in western Pennsylvania, whose casualty placement he picked up in 2019.

“He did do a very thorough review on the program going in, and we asked him to be the other set of eyes and look for any additional opportunities or something that may have been missed,” said a risk manager for the company, a specialty materials manufacturer.

Printz is now studying the company’s shift from a self-insured workers’ comp program to an insured program, said the risk manager.
