Most utilities procure insurance from three main industry mutuals and then commercial markets above that.
Due to losses, two of the three industry mutuals made moves to cut their insurance capacity in half for 2024.
Enter Julie Reinhardt.
“My company’s early renewal made us among the first to be affected by those cuts,” said one risk manager. “We were left with a hole in the middle of our insurance tower in the high eight figures. Julie worked collaboratively with our existing insurers and courted new markets to push the hole up our tower. We increased overall limits and only lost a few million in wildfire limits. Julie has already laid the groundwork for continuing support from our insurers for 2025.”
Another risk manager noted, “One of the most significant challenges this year for our industry is wildfire liability. Julie was able to help us develop a strategy to maximize the wildfire liability insurance within our excess program at renewal. She worked to negotiate lower premium loads and minimize gaps in coverage.”
Reinhardt was “a major factor in our selection of Marsh when we last solicited for brokerage services,” said one treasury official.
“Julie was instrumental in placing competitively priced and broad coverages with respect to our excess liability and excess workers’ comp policies. She helped remove a clause in our primary layer wildfire coinsurance, expanding our coverage at a favorable rate for our current excess liability policy. That was a critical negotiation win as wildfire coverage for utilities is challenging.”
