Look for these expanded profiles on the Risk & Insurance website and in your social media feeds throughout the year.

Kurt Spielmann, managing director, Marsh, and a 2024 M&A Power Broker shares more below.

Risk & Insurance: In which commercial lines are your clients struggling to put together adequate coverage?

Kurt Spielmann: I would say that the continuing increase in the cost of, and pull back in the availability of, excess liability coverage is a notable area of concern for my clients with larger vehicle fleets.

As the cost of coverage continues to increase, clients are having to make tough choices between keeping insurance costs in line with budget and ensuring they have adequate coverage for catastrophic claims. The pull back in available capacity has made the buying decisions that much harder.

R&I: On the claims side, what’s working well and what’s not?

KS: While I am not that close to the claims process, I would say that the legal environment continues to remain challenging and clients continue to face plaintiff friendly jurisdictions which is driving up the cost of claims.

R&I: Where do you see generative artificial intelligence making a difference in your team’s work?

KS: I think it well help speed up the basic blocking and tackling of building charts and tables for our client reports as well as more easily analyze trends in costs and losses.

R&I: What advice would you give to a younger person that is seeking to break into this industry?

KS: The risks our clients face continue to evolve, and so do the solutions we can bring to our clients. I would say that no matter where you work in the industry, keep up on the latest risk issues, and seek out opportunities to help innovate and drive solutions. &
