The CPCU Society will host its annual leadership education event March 28-29 at the Tampa Marriott Water Street. Registration for the event, called In2Leadership, is now open. Attendees from any industry and background are welcome. The event is not limited to CPCUs or even insurance professionals — registration is open to professionals from any industry and background.

This year, the CPCU Society has again partnered with the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University to bring attendees best-in-class leadership education from experienced professors. Courses are focused on trending topics such as effective change management, proactive conflict management, critical thinking, collaboration and emotional intelligence.

Tom Hunsaker, clinical professor of strategy & leadership, Global Challenge Lab at Thunderbird, is one of the faculty members who will be teaching attendees at In2Leadership. Hunsaker described how the curriculum is meaningful to those managing risk: “There is currently as much risk and uncertainty as at any time in recent memory — and this extends globally. But with volatility comes opportunity. Thunderbird faculty are uniquely focused on helping others to develop the leadership capabilities needed to thrive in high-stakes, high-transformation and increasingly global conditions.”

Learn Leadership Skills Integral to Career Opportunities

In2Leadership draws attendees at every level in their careers. Recent college graduates or professionals who have just started their careers will find particular value in the opening general session, “Charting Your Own Course.” The session covers how to create a leadership pathway designed specifically for your own career. After that, attendees will break off into smaller sessions to learn more about critical leadership topics from the Thunderbird professors.

Seasoned professionals will enjoy the small-group discussions in sessions focused on high-performance coaching, reducing the noise in our world to allow space for critical thinking, and evaluating and improving emotional intelligence. Having an experienced facilitator from Thunderbird guiding the intimate discussions will allow leaders to reflect on their own skills and get focused help to improve their abilities in a low-stakes environment.

Returning attendee Amy Howell, CPCU, AINS, chapter president, Central Indiana CPCU Society, spoke about the value of attending In2Leadership: “It’s important to remember that you don’t have to have a formal title to be a leader. A professional at any level would benefit from attending. I also think that In2Leadership is of particular value to those that do not have an advanced degree. Here, you are given access to professors who teach formal programs at an accredited institution and you have the opportunity to learn from them for two days. Where else would you be allowed that kind of access?”

Working within a dynamic industry like insurance and living in an ever-changing world means adapting quickly. Executive leadership training at In2Leadership helps professionals develop these skills to grow as leaders, returning immediate value to their teams and employers.

“One of the critical needs that we have heard from employers and individuals over the last several years has been the desire to develop leaders and advance leadership skills. The CPCU Society is working to respond to these expressed needs and has engineered a revolutionary event, In2Leadership,” said Spenser Villwock, executive director at the CPCU Society.

“Working in partnership with Arizona State University, the Society is bringing expert leadership education for risk management and insurance professionals direct to our two-day event in Tampa in late March.”

The closing keynote session by Nancy Giordano, a strategic futurist, corporate strategist and bestselling author, will inspire attendees to think differently about the future of work.

First-Time Attendees and Returning Conference-Goers Benefit From In2Leadership

In2Leadership is an annual event that draws both returning and new attendees every year. Everyone who attends the leadership sessions will earn a certificate of completion from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University and the CPCU Society.

In addition to the education gained from the facilitators, conference-goers will learn from other attendees through group discussions, informal conversations and networking events. Many attendees return year after year to keep their leadership skills current.

“What compels me to return to the event is not only the return of the Thunderbird professors but also the opportunity to network with other CPCU leaders from across the country. Our members are some of the best and the brightest in the industry and having those folks in leadership sessions with you gives you the opportunity to learn from them as well,” Howell said.

Employers and professionals recognize the need for continuous education, which is also a CPCU value and an important component of the insurance industry. Through In2Leadership, attendees will build on their past experiences to gain valuable leadership skills.

“This event is certain to move the needle on elevating the lifelong skill of honing leadership skills, and In2Leadership has begun to garner noted recognition — not only domestically, but growing international praise from RMI professionals worldwide as well,” Villwock said.
