Here, we talk with Marsh broker Amy Scarpace, a 2025 Real Estate Power Broker.
Risk & Insurance: In building a successful brokerage career, which individuals or organizations had the most positive impact on you?
Amy Scarpace: Without a doubt, it is my fellow Marsh colleagues who have had the most positive impact on my career.
When you are in the trenches servicing clients together and working through difficult situations, each colleague ultimately remembers the way you made them feel and if you stepped up in the moments that matter to get the job done. Whether they were senior to me or junior to me in title or in years of experience, it is each of these little interactions that built my reputation.
It is the wonderful Marsh mentors I have had who spoke my name in rooms I did not yet have access to and truly helped open up doors for me.
Some of these Marsh colleagues have gone on to be clients and given me valuable opportunities to work with them in their new roles.
R&I: How has your view of the capabilities of technology to aid risk management and insurance efficiencies evolved in the past few years?
AS: I am constantly learning more about the ways that AI is able to better equip me in doing my job. Most recently, I’ve been exploring the use of AI in researching prospects and preparing for client meetings. The depth of the research that AI tools are able to collect and consolidate quickly provides a very solid foundation for meeting preparation.
R&I: In your view, is insurance doing all it can to attract and retain the talent it will need to maintain a viable and relevant industry?
AS: I am lucky enough to get to work with a number of early career colleagues at Marsh. I am constantly floored by the level of talent we have coming through our doors, many of whom have studied risk management in some capacity prior to beginning their careers with us. We are attracting phenomenal talent.
That said, retaining talent can be a challenge. All of us within the industry should find ways to invest our time as mentors and managers to help guide our early talent as they chart their path forward. I am clear with my early career colleagues that it is up to them to drive their careers and be clear about their goals and expectations. We can then discuss plans to get them there and address any roadblocks that may exist. They must balance their drive with the inevitable patience that can be required at times as they work towards achieving career goals.
R&I: What are you proudest about among your accomplishments in your professional life?
AS: I am proud of the relationships I have forged within this industry. It is a pleasure to see those relationships continue to blossom in new and interesting ways as close colleagues and clients explore different roles within the wider world of insurance and risk management. &
