Here we speak to Hylant’s Sarah Williams, a 2025 Power Broker in the Captives category.
Risk & Insurance: Given today’s risk environment, which industry sectors do you see expressing the most consistent interest in group captives?
Sarah Williams: Broad industry sectors that continue to consistently realize relief from standard market pricing pressures through group captive utilization are: contracting/construction; transportation and logistics; manufacturing; and distribution. Group captives continue to be a fantastic alternative for quality risks that are focused on effective risk management, are financially stable and are interested in a long-term approach that more directly rewards them for favorable loss performance over time.
R&I: Education seems to be very important to you. What is it about constant learning that bolsters you as a professional?
SW: Curiosity and the desire for continuous improvement has fueled my desire for learning. Having a growth oriented mindset has helped me become a more thoughtful leader, and the knowledge that I have gained has also deepened the well that I draw from when collaborating with existing clients, prospective clients, colleagues, and trusted partners.
R&I: What emerging risks do you think buyers of insurance should be keeping an eye on, whether that risk is suitable for a captive or not?
SW: The areas of greatest concern and uncertainty for C-Suite executives today are cybersecurity, AI integration and governance, macroeconomic uncertainty, talent shortages and supply chain volatility all of which carry significant operational, technological and economic risks that can be triggered or worsened by geopolitical influences. When soundly structured through qualitative and quantitative analysis in partnership with aligned service partners, captives can be a bridge to effectively manage these risks and mitigate the potential financial impact to an insurance buyer’s profitability over time.
R&I: What is it about the culture at Hylant that works for you as a professional?
SW: As I celebrate my sixth year with Hylant, I have witnessed the value of being part of a fourth generation, family-owned operation that has built an incredible reputation and legacy within our industry. Hylant’s Executive Leadership takes an active role in supporting entrepreneurial thinking, emphasizing continuous education and investing consistently in causes that build stronger communities. Hylant’s culture is deeply rooted in the investment they make in their people, the technology that supports them and the daily efforts to deliver exemplary service to their clients. What I appreciate most is the integrity, transparency and collaborative environment that I have had the privilege of contributing to every day for the past six years. &
