Investors in greenfield developments often insulate themselves from risk by structuring the project as a discrete business. That makes insurance placement a challenge for the broker.
“Lisa was instrumental in enabling our casualty program to get us up to speed,” said the executive of one such venture. “Over the summer she was able to overhaul our liability policy, moving us from a low-limit policy with a regional carrier to a substantially larger policy required to meet the needs of our new structure in a matter of days.”
The high-profile development involved significant capital investment as well as construction and operational risks, necessitating a comprehensive and tailored insurance program including property, cargo, and casualty policies. That extended from protection of the client’s assets to clarification of third-party responsibilities.
The program was all the more challenging because the account was new to Lisa Chines and to Marsh, meaning she had to understand the complexities of the development quickly. It is in a region that has been touted for large-scale developments of this type, but the client’s project will be among the first to proceed.
Operator’s extra expense coverage was the focus for another client, a major global corporation. Demonstrating detailed knowledge of the energy industry, Chines was able to identify and correct errors in operational reports. That enabled the client to tighten data for work processes as well as cost control.
