Amber DuVentre, the risk manager at the Meharry Medical College, found herself in an interesting situation when leadership decided to create a groundbreaking DNA database focused on African ancestries. It is a completely new line of activity that is compounded by a mirror lab in Zambia and requires a different kind of insurance from what Meharry usually purchases.
“When my leadership asked me about the insurance side of it, I immediately connected with Cecelia. She is just a wealth of knowledge,” DuVentre said. Cecelia Rogers was able to secure cover for cyber, clinical trials and other risks faced by the new facilities.
It was not an easy task. DuVentre noted that, while Meharry is a nonprofit entity, the new lab was set up as a for-profit arm. But Rogers mobilized the resources offered by Marsh Risk, such as its Life Sciences team, to protect the project against a whole gamut of risks. DuVentre also recalled when a faculty member traveled to another state and found out that she needed a certificate of insurance to perform her duties there. Even though Rogers had the day off, she mobilized her team to get the required certificate in less than one hour.
“That saved our faculty member money and time from having to go back home and start that whole process over again,” she said. “No wonder that, when Cecelia moved to Marsh, we moved our business there too.”
