Marsh Broker Joe McNamara Recognized as a 2025 Real Estate Power Broker
Joe McNamara, Senior Vice President, Marsh
As the Nat CAT insurance market becomes increasingly challenging for buyers, brokers need to propose creative solutions — like an alternative risk transfer structure.
This year, Joe McNamara helped a client acquire coverage for a portfolio with Florida exposure by deploying an ART.
“We have been using the ART structure, which is relatively new to the real estate space,” said Wendy Touchette, director, investor relations, Aspen Square Management.
“This is our second year with it, and we have spent a lot of time discussing how to expand it.”
McNamara helped Aspen add a second carrier to its program via a three-year structured risk policy. The goal was to access non-traditional capacity to further increase market competition in the company’s layer, while also increasing the potential returnable premium built into the program.
Stacy Stevens, SVP, risk management, American Realty Advisors, praised McNamara’s ability to look for capacity in both domestic and E&S markets as he tries to obtain the best possible coverages for clients.
That was reflected in a decrease on the property program renewal thanks to the emphasis the broker put on the quality of the company’s risk management process while negotiating with underwriters.
“Joe really pushed the envelope with the insurance carriers, and they recognized the fact that we didn’t have losses,” Stevens said.
