Marsh Broker Cari Hernandez Recognized as a 2020 Hospitality Power Broker
Cari Hernandez, Senior Vice President, Marsh
When your personal work philosophy is “client first, every day, all day,” it’s hard to go wrong. That’s how Cari Hernandez — a proponent of “walking a mile in her clients’ shoes” — sees the world.
In one case, Hernandez and her team worked with a private equity client looking to consolidate the insurance programs for each of its portfolio of hotels under one property program umbrella to gain efficiencies and contract certainty. Hernandez and Marsh procured a multi-year property program that saved the client a substantial amount of premium.
When a large hotel portfolio client came to Marsh with concerns about its entire insurance program, Hernandez and her team identified a better program structure, product and access point via creative thinking and strategy with the Asian markets and delivered a cost-effective approach that provided the amount of risk transfer this client wanted.
Tricia Needham, executive vice president/general counsel, Strategic Hotels & Resorts, is a lawyer by training but “fell into insurance.” She was very happy to have Hernandez there to catch her.
“It was trial by hellfire; Cari has been my guru and instructor, guiding me through the learning process,” Needham said. “What I value the most in Cari is she’s a true fiduciary; she works 100% for my benefit. Most of all, Cari tells the me the truth. She has the personal qualities I really value.”
