Carriers have been dropping coverage of the cotton industry, creating a quandary for companies like Southeastern Gin & Peanut, a cotton producer in Surrency, Georgia.

“Property and casualty is a big challenge in our industry,” said Kent Fountain, Southeastern’s president and CEO. “It is pretty tough to find anybody to write cotton gins.”

Kirby Ingram found a solution. Over a period of several years, he worked with Lloyd’s of London to create an industry-specific property program.

The nationwide program, which had attracted more than 60 accounts as of late 2025, offers enhanced coverage with higher limits at a lower cost than cotton companies would otherwise be paying.

The new option is “very critical,” Fountain said, noting that the cotton industry faces economic headwinds due to declines in production. “It helped us save a good bit of money.”

Oasis Gin in Seminole, Texas, also signed on for the new program. The company’s premium was less than expected, according to office manager Angie Blacketer, who had little doubt Ingram would deliver something better than the market had been offering.

“He really values our business, and he’s always willing to help us out,” she said. Ingram’s work extends beyond the new program, Blacketer added. He shows up and meets with adjusters when the company has major claims, for example, and he negotiates better premiums for other coverage, as well.
