Brown & Brown Broker Philip Johnson Recognized as a 2026 Workers’ Compensation Power Broker
Philip Johnson, Casualty Analytics Specialist, Brown & Brown
It’s not every day that a broker is recognized for saving a client’s business. But that is exactly the case with Philip Johnson, a casualty analytics specialist at Brown & Brown.
Karen Pastore, the owner of the construction firm Structural Steel, said that Johnson’s work was key for the firm to obtain the ratings from the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) that it required to stay in operation.
“Our previous agents gave us bad information, and we ended up saddled with the risks from a company from whom we purchased assets like trucks and cranes,” she said.
“The previous owner had been in business for 30 years and had a couple of incidents in the past two to three years before he sold us the assets. We are brand new in the business, but we were saddled with someone else’s rating.”
Pastore said Johnson showed an exceptional command of casualty analytics and NCCI policy, as well as an unwavering commitment to securing the right outcome for the company.
“Philip’s efforts directly protected our company from a potentially devastating operational shutdown,” she said. “He went through painstaking efforts to get us the actual rating for a brand-new company.”
Workers’ comp is not the only segment where Johnson has shown his prowess in the past year. Clinton Shocklee, the president of Tri Rinse, faced a 40% increase in its property premiums. Thanks to Johnson’s work, the firm instead saved $350,000 in premiums.
