When a large consulting firm was hit with a series of complex professional liability claims, underwriters responded as the claims developed by hiking premiums and writing coverage above an ever-growing self-insured retention.

While the increasing insurance costs were difficult for the firm’s C-suite to accept as the claims were being resolved, Marc Boccio convinced executives that keeping insurer relationships intact would pay off in the long run.

It was an approach that worked.

Time spent preserving those relationships and fostering new ones paid off after the claims were settled, with a 6% reduction in professional liability premiums.

Boccio’s work has also helped law firms make coverage decisions in the midst of acquisitions and dissolutions.

As the partner and deputy general counsel of one firm put it: “His expertise and experience in the law firm industry, and specifically regarding our firm’s professional liability needs and goals, have been invaluable to our insurance and risk management program.” In one case, a large firm acquired another and struggled with whether to purchase tail coverage. With Boccio’s guidance, the firm decided to retain the risk.
