In this instance, we interviewed Reid Clary, a vice president in the agribusiness practice of AssuredPartners and a 2024 Power Broker.
Clary’s customers praise him for helping them address their supply chain and infrastructure risk transfer needs, which include the use of captives. Here, we ask him a few questions about his approach to the business.
Risk & Insurance: What are some of the keys to your success as a commercial insurance broker?
Reid Clary: I believe what has helped me succeed as a broker is sticking to my core values. I think that has been the foundation of what has allowed me to build some amazing relationships with both clients and others within the industry. It seems like these past few years, there has been a lot of noise, and I think what clients want so desperately is an advisor who they know and trust that is working diligently on getting them the best terms and conditions.
R&I: In the economic sectors you work in, what are some of the biggest challenges insureds face?
RC: The sector I work in is agriculture, and I believe some of the biggest challenges insured are facing relating to insurance are driven mainly by large property losses, settlement clauses, social inflation, the cost of construction, and global property reinsurance cost.
R&I: If you could name one thing the commercial insurance industry could improve on, what would it be?
RC: As brokers, we uniquely see both sides of the aisle in the transaction. Transparency and timeliness are two words that stand out to me that could be improved on in helping our clients make educated buying decisions.
R&I: Where do you find the most joy in your work?
RC: The people I work with is where I find the most joy in my work. In the past few years, it has been extremely hard delivering the renewals we have had to deliver. However, my clients and colleagues are some of the most genuine individuals and are an amazing representation of the ag industry in a whole. &
