The Liberty Company Promotes Adam Baillie to COO

The Liberty Company Insurance Brokers (Liberty) promoted Adam Baillie to chief operating officer (COO). Baillie previously served as chief strategy officer (CSO) for Liberty.

“This promotion to COO for Adam is well deserved, as he has consistently shown his love and passion for this organization over many years,” said Bill Johnson, CEO, chairman and founder of Liberty. “This, in addition to his boundless energy, sharp mind and wonderful leadership qualities, puts us in a great position to continue to succeed as we move forward on our journey of growth here at Liberty.”

Baillie joined the firm in 2014 as a producer, and later became a managing partner, ultimately holding a variety of roles.

Over the past decade, Baillie was responsible for creating and managing Liberty’s business development unit, data and business intelligence units, and Liberty Underwriting Services (LUS). In his new role, he will oversee all aspects of Liberty’s four distinct business segments, along with several administrative and operational functions.

Andrew Maisano Hired by Unison Risk Advisors

Unison Risk Advisors has hired Andrew Maisano as its senior vice president of corporate development. He will focus on merger and acquisition strategy. Unison Risk Advisors is the holding company for Oswald Companies of Cleveland, Baltimore-based RCM&D and Miami-based NSI Insurance.

Maisano earned his bachelor of science degree in systems engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is a U.S. Army veteran who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.

Maisano completed Ranger School, the Army’s premier leadership program, and served in various leadership and staff roles for organizations from 30 to 1,200 soldiers.

Following his military service, Maisano earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. He joined McKinsey & Co. as a management consultant, where he worked with companies to address issues in strategy, operations, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational culture.

Maisano’s most recent experience was gained at TravelCenters of America, where he was the vice president of strategy and M&A. There, he was responsible for leading network growth through mergers and acquisitions for the company, both as a publicly traded company and as a subsidiary of BP p.l.c. after a $1.3 billion merger this year.

“Andrew’s disciplined and impressive career in the military and beyond has focused on strategic planning and implementation of mergers and acquisitions, and he has succeeded at every turn,” said Robert Klonk, chairman and chief executive officer of Oswald Companies and Unison Risk Advisors. “He will be an integral part of the team as we continue to focus on growth organically and through M&A activity.”

HUB Picks Up Academic Notable Harris Pastides

Hub International Limited (HUB) announced that Harris Pastides has joined the company as strategic industry advisor. In this new role, Pastides will be responsible for expanding industry knowledge and expertise in HUB’s health care and education specialties, creating differentiated offerings, services and resources; identifying new areas of investment; generating proprietary insights; and spotlighting long-term market trends.

“Harris has a strong reputation as a leading industry expert in health care and education,” said Chris Treanor, HUB president of programs and specialties. “His expertise strengthens our industry acuity and aligns with our focus on attracting and retaining top talent in various industries. We look to continue bringing on similar executive talent to HUB.”

Pastides is president emeritus of the University of South Carolina, where he served as president from 2008 to 2019 and interim president from 2021 to 2022. He joined the university in 1998, where he held research and health sciences positions and was dean of the Arnold School of Public Health. He has also chaired the NCAA Division I board of directors and served as the president of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Harris Pastides, strategic industry advisor, HUB

Pastides is a Fulbright alumnus and recipient of the Global Changemaker Award in recognition of his ongoing commitment to transforming society and humanity. The son of Greek immigrants, Pastides received the 2017 Ellis Island Medal of Honor and was awarded the degree of doctor of science (medicine) honoris causa by the University of Nicosia Medical School. In 2022, he was awarded the U.S. Presidential Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Pastides serves on several boards, chairs the Fulbright program’s Council for the International Exchange of Scholars and is on the executive committee of the Institute for International Education. He also serves as the only non-physician member of the board of trustees of the American Medical Association.

Pastides earned a master of public health and PhD in epidemiology from Yale University.

WTW Veteran John Wyatt Joins Alliant

Insurance industry veteran John Wyatt joined Alliant Insurance Services as senior vice president within its Alliant Americas division. Based in Richmond, Virginia, Wyatt joins Alliant with experience serving a broad range of industries, including in client relationship management and executive management.

“John will leverage his extensive regional experience and deep industry relationships to play a vital role in growing our presence in the mid-Atlantic region,” said Bob Bennetsen, executive vice president and senior managing director with Alliant.

“He is highly regarded for his ability to work directly with senior management to develop enterprise-wide solutions that address existing and emerging industry risks.”

In his new role, Wyatt will develop and implement risk and insurance solutions for corporations throughout the metro D.C. and Chesapeake market. He will also work to grow and expand Alliant’s reach throughout the region.

Formerly with Willis Towers Watson, Wyatt earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Virginia and holds an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation.

Jessalynn Suda Joins RT Specialty’s Leadership Team at RT Binding Authority

RT Specialty, the wholesale distribution division of Ryan Specialty, announced the addition of Jessalynn Suda to RT Binding Authority’s leadership team. As director of underwriting, Suda will focus on product development, profitability studies and quality assurance.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jessalynn to the RT Binding team,” said Seth Johnson, president of RT Binding Authority. “She has proven underwriting and leadership talent, knowledge and skill set, and we are looking forward to having Jessalynn as part of our Binding Authority leadership team.”

Suda brings 15 years of underwriting experience to RT Specialty, 11 of them in management positions. She has an extensive background in property and casualty underwriting, as well as in garage and inland marine. Suda most recently served as vice president, underwriting for H.W. Kaufman, Atain Specialty Insurance Companies, Burns & Wilcox.
