CorVel Brings on New Chief Information Security Officer

CorVel Corporation, a provider of comprehensive risk management solutions, has appointed Stefan Richards as chief information security officer.

Richards will lead CorVel’s security information strategies and operations, working closely with the existing information technology team: Maxim Shishin, chief information officer, and Tom Benson, chief technology officer.

“Our goal is to have a dedicated focus on the arm of security,” said Michael Combs, president and CEO of CorVel.

Richards comes to CorVel with over 20 years of experience, serving organizations such as Microsoft and Intel.

Most recently, he built a central security organization program for the state of Oregon.

“Richards brings an extensive background in the security space and will be an excellent addition to our team,” said Combs. “We are very excited to have him join CorVel.”

Burns & Wilcox Adds Michelle Clark to Leadership Team

Insurance wholesale broker and underwriting manager Burns & Wilcox announced the addition of Michelle Clark to its leadership team as a managing director.

Clark will be based in Denver, Colorado.

As managing director, she will oversee the daily operations of her office and lead their growth. She will work closely with the office’s newly appointed associate managing director, Felicia Armstrong. Clark reports to Harvey Goldenberg, executive vice president, managing director, Burns & Wilcox, who oversees the Western Region.

“Michelle is a strong addition to Burns & Wilcox leadership, given her reputation of outstanding client service and developing and leading high-producing underwriting and brokerage teams,” said Goldenberg.

“Burns & Wilcox has been operating out of Denver for more than 30 years and is known for its diverse and well-balanced portfolio, ranging from construction and product liability to property and professional liability. Michelle’s brokerage background and experience writing large accounts blends well with the existing talent we have in the office.”

Clark has over 25 years of insurance industry experience and joins from RT Specialty, where she served as an executive vice president.

“I look forward to utilizing my diverse skills and deep expertise of risk analysis, business development and program management to support and grow the Burns & Wilcox Denver office,” said Clark.

GCube Adds Brian Tyluki, Senior Vice President

GCube Insurance Services Inc, provider of renewable energy insurance services, has appointed Brian Tyluki as senior vice president, senior underwriter in the firm’s New York office.

Prior to joining GCube, Tyluki worked at Axis Capital, where he managed clients involved in renewable energy. He has spent most of his 15-year career leading the casualty efforts for multiple carriers in the traditional and renewable energy space, and he also brings knowledge of property as well.

Commenting on Tyluki’s appointment, Jatin Sharma, president, GCube, said: “The U.S. renewable energy market has seen a number of challenges in recent years that have caused the supporting insurance sector, in some cases, to re-evaluate further widespread capacity for projects.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Brian into our team of over 30 dedicated underwriters, and capitalizing on his experience to date,” Sharma said.

“Joining a mature and leading MGA in the sector is a great prospect,” said Tyluki.

Ascot Group Welcomes Drew Walter

Ascot Group, a Bermuda domiciled global specialist in insurance and reinsurance, welcomed Drew Walter, executive vice president and head of cyber & commercial E&O, to their New York office.

In his new role, Walter will write cyber alongside technology, media and miscellaneous E&O classes.

Walter joins Ascot from Axis Capital, where he was head of global cyber & technology underwriting delivery. For nearly 10 years, he oversaw the regional underwriting on a range of cyber and E&O products.

“The addition of Drew’s team exponentially strengthens our U.S. financial lines presence,” said Greg Wolyniec, president & chief executive officer, Ascot U.S.

“The E&O lines complement our existing LPL and recently launched D&O and FI offerings, while the team’s cyber expertise will be used to provide standalone and innovatively bundled cyber solutions across many of our lines of business.”

BlueRiver Underwriters Hires J.D. Skelton

BlueRiver Underwriters, a Breckenridge Insurance Group Company, has added James D. Skelton, underwriter, to their specialty program team. He is based in Glen Allen, Virginia.

Skelton has seven years of previous underwriting experience with Kinsale Capital Group and Nationwide Mutual Insurance. He spent the first eight years of his career working in the financial sector with Navy Credit Union and Wells Fargo.

“Having J.D. join us now is a tremendous help, particularly as we have significant growth opportunities as we head into 2020. Not only is he a skilled underwriter, but he’s very driven to succeed,” stated Michael Marks, vice president, underwriter of the specialty property program.

“We’ve got more capacity now in property than we’ve ever had, and that is exciting for all of us,” he added.
