Canopius Group announced two recent executive appointments. Stacey Alioto was named group chief operating officer of the specialty re(insurer), effective in September 2026, and Melanie M. Brown joins as head of U.S. Claims, effective Aug. 3, 2026.

“We are delighted to welcome Stacey to Canopius,” said Group CEO Neil Robertson. “She brings exceptional depth of operational leadership that aligns closely with our ambition and scalable growth trajectory. Stacey will play a critical role in helping us take our next leap as a business.”

Alioto joins from HSBC, where she most recently served as Deputy Group Chief Operating Officer. During her 25-year tenure at HSBC, she led operations spanning more than 60 markets and managed teams of up to 10,000 employees. In her new role, she will report to Robertson and join the Group Leadership Team, focusing on operational excellence as Canopius continues to scale internationally.

Alioto succeeds Kate Roy, who is retiring after a five-year tenure as Group COO.

Brown joins from Munich Re Specialty North America, where she served as head of Complex and Specialty Claims, overseeing strategy for managing high-exposure claims and driving efficiency initiatives. She previously held senior claims leadership roles at Markel.

“Melanie’s depth of experience across specialty, P&C and reinsurance claims, combined with her proven leadership capabilities, make her ideally suited to support our US business,” said Lindsay Astor, acting US CEO at Canopius.

In her new role, Brown will lead Canopius’ US claims function, reporting to incoming Group Chief Claims Officer Steve Parry, and will focus on delivering quality outcomes for policyholders and brokers. &
