Let’s be honest: Some people might make great entrepreneurs, but they would rather not deal with the intricacies of an insurance policy.

“I understand that many business owners hate dealing with insurance because they don’t understand it and don’t know how to control it,” Rob Hoover wrote in his Power Broker application.

That’s where Hoover fits in. In 2023, Hoover was named the exclusive broker for the Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association. In that role, he led the development of a hospitality insurance program. Keep in mind that in recent years, operators of hospitality businesses have experienced sharp increases in property insurance, liquor liability insurance and workers’ compensation insurance rates.

Even in that environment, Hoover was able to deliver average savings of 15%, or $5,600 per location, to new members. In addition to premium savings, the program’s audit process revealed that 60% of the policies reviewed contained significant deficiencies.

Kurt Huffman, the founder and CEO of ChefStable, said Hoover was instrumental in navigating liquor liability coverage issues that threatened to hamstring his operations, which are varied and widespread.

“Rob really helped us find appropriate coverage for an appropriate dollar amount that made the whole thing financially viable,” Huffman said. “He goes through a process of bidding out all of our insurance packages and makes solid recommendations based on
what we are seeing.”
