Risk Strategies Broker Mary Pontillo Recognized as a 2025 Fine Arts Power Broker
Mary Pontillo, National Fine Art Product Leader, SVP, Risk Strategies
When a museum had a major exhibition in Venice, it needed lending contracts for the work being exhibited, many of which were written by the lending institutions and were in languages other than English.
The museum needed to get the contracts translated to make sure the works had the coverage they needed.
“We had to figure out how the loans were going to be best protected during this exhibition,” the risk manager for the museum said. “We were also dealing with a lot of loan contracts.”
Mary Pontillo leveraged her extensive experience and expertise in the fine arts space to ensure the museum had what they needed to make sure the works would be covered.
“We had to go back and get down into the very nitty gritty with them to really parse out the language, and Mary was able to do that since she has so much experience in this field,” the client said.
“Mary was with me every single step of the way.”
Other clients praised Pontillo’s knowledge of the industry and her near-24/7 responsiveness. Whenever they need anything, they can get in touch with her. That’s important in the art world, where works out on loan may be in different time zones.
Her communication “is just priceless,” a client said.
“You just feel like she’s got your back,” another client said. “She’s so wonderful at putting that complex insurance language into [plain] English.”
