Marsh Risk Broker Mark Poyadue Recognized as a 2026 Workers’ Compensation Power Broker
Mark Poyadue, Vice President, Marsh Risk
Problem solving is a main trait for a top broker, and one that is particularly appreciated by clients during an emergency.
Mark Poyadue, a vice-president at the Marsh McLennan Agency in Sacramento, showed that he has it by the bucketful when the University of California had to deal with disagreements with an insurer about a delicate workers’ comp claim.
Mark Field, the Deputy Chief Risk Officer at UC, prefers not to give too many details about the case to protect the privacy of those involved.
But it was a tricky one where a faculty member suffered an injury while travelling abroad, and the carrier decided that it was not covered by the company’s policy.
Poyadue stepped in to negotiate a solution with the insurers. He managed to obtain an endorsement to the policy that would not only guarantee coverage for the current case, but also make sure that the situation will not happen again in the future.
“Due to the complexity of the international claim investigation, it took Mark a while, but not only did he get this one claim covered, he was also able to negotiate a broader endorsement that gave clarity on the intent of the policy,” Field said.
“Mark took it a step further. He solved the immediate problem and then he looked at how we could we fix it for the future, which is helpful.”
He is especially appreciative of the persistence and sense of urgency that Poyadue showed in a sensitive situation.
