Marsh Broker Matthew Doyle Recognized as a 2024 Environmental Power Broker
Matthew Doyle, VP, Client Advisor, Marsh
As its footprint grew in the U.S., a specialty chemicals company was facing new challenges to its environmental coverage. New acquisitions came with different risk appetites and different policies, said an insurance executive for the company, which has been trying to better align coverage without taking anything away.
Matt Doyle has been a chief driver of what the executive acknowledged has been “a process.” As a first step, Doyle lined up renewal dates for the various policies, which should make it easier to roll them into one policy in the future.
“He’s a good resource for us,” said the executive, adding that Doyle has also been patient with the company’s relatively slow pace of decision-making.
Doyle has also proven sensitive to clients’ financial constraints. He helped Cleveland-based University Hospitals Health System set up a plan to pay its premium in two chunks rather than all at once while avoiding the fees and interest associated with traditional premium financing, for example.
The arrangement allowed the system to purchase the excess limits it was seeking to accommodate recent growth, said Rachel Jeavons, supervisor for insurance and risk management at the health system.
In addition, Doyle helped University Hospitals maintain coverage for PFAS exposure while it worked to mitigate the risk. The carrier had been pushing for an exclusion.
“I know he had to go back multiple times and was determined to get a better outcome for us,” Jeavons said. “He didn’t just take no as the first answer.”
