Marsh Broker John Shannon Moyer Recognized as a 2020 Utilities Power Broker
John Shannon Moyer, Senior Vice President, Marsh
Clients of Marsh’s John Moyer appreciate his exceptional analytic skills.
“In 2019, we and our peer utility companies ran into the first hard market in quite some time due to the recent California wildfires and the impact of the 2018 Massachusetts gas explosion,” said one senior manager of insurance.
“Moyer’s mastery of analytics — he’s a spreadsheet guru — allowed us to perform a foundational analysis of the efficiency of various layers of coverage by comparing expected losses to the cost of insurance,” the client continued.
“That confirmed the adequacy of limits we were purchasing, the cost of capital and the cost of obtaining additional coverage.
His dedication, understanding and knowledge enabled us to minimize premium increases without jeopardizing the terms and conditions of our policies.”
Another client faced a dire situation: Claims paid to the client for the previous year exceeded premiums the client paid to its carrier.
“The underwriter sent notice I was going to get hit hard,” said the director of risk management.
“[Moyer] sat down and did the deep analysis to show the carrier that in relation to comparable operators, we were already being treated fairly,” so any big premium increase was not in order, despite “a market that is hardening by the month.”
A third client credited Moyer with producing a “rock star” renewal.
