Alliant Broker Courtney Ramirez Recognized as a 2020 Public Sector Power Broker
Courtney Ramirez, Vice President, Alliant Insurance Services
Have you ever wondered what happens to the retailer that sells a winning lottery ticket? Texas Lottery Commission, which processes the state’s Power Ball and Mega Million lotteries, gives the retailer a $1 million bonus. But to do this, it needs coverage up to $1 million.
“It’s an unusual coverage, prize indemnity, and it was new to Courtney, but she took to it quickly and packaged it for carriers,” said Toni Erikson, support services manager.
“We thought we’d have a few interested, because this was such a niche market,” she added, “but thanks to Courtney’s outreach and marketing, 14 carriers showed interest and multiple policy options were offered.”
For the Riverside Transit Agency, Ramirez helped it transition out of an auto and liability pool after significant premium increases.
“We were paying $900,000 a year, and that rose up to $2.3 million for the liability premium,” said Rick Majors, director of risk management. Ramirez was vital in the transit extricating itself from the pool to a standalone option.
“Courtney took an interest in our wellbeing and put into place a policy that made sense.” She also went beyond expectations and tracked where the agency would have been if it had remained in the pool. “Overall we saved about $3 million,” Majors said.
Brett Dahl, administrator, risk management & tort defense division/CRO, Montana State Government, added Ramirez introduced the State to active shooter insurance, providing gap coverage for property damage, BI and crisis counseling.
“We can’t predict when an event might happen,” he said. “But we have coverage, and we’re among the first states to purchase it.”
