Sedgwick Appoints Courtney Welton Global Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel

Sedgwick has appointed Courtney Welton as global chief legal officer, general counsel and corporate secretary.

“Courtney’s combination of collaborative leadership and practical business judgment impressed us immediately,” said Michelle Hay, chief people and administrative officer at Sedgwick. “She has built and led high-performing teams throughout her career, enabling innovation while strengthening risk management. We are confident she will be a key asset for Sedgwick as we navigate change and enter our next chapter.”

Welton joins Sedgwick from Allstate Insurance Company, where she served as senior vice president, general counsel and chief ethics, privacy and compliance officer. She also held senior legal leadership roles at Motorola Mobility, Google and Lenovo before beginning her legal career at Skadden.

In her new role, Welton will join the executive leadership team, guiding the company’s legal strategy, governance, regulatory compliance and risk management efforts, with a particular focus on responsible AI governance.

Welton serves on the boards of Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts and Legal Prep Charter Academy and is an adjunct professor of law at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, where she earned her J.D. &
