Risk & Insurance mourns the passing of a valued colleague.

The Risk & Insurance team is deeply saddened to mark the passing of Managing Editor Anne Freedman.

Anne was an indefatigable conductor of the moving parts and people that go into publishing our magazine and our website. Her guiding hand expertly kept the trains (or the issues) running smoothly and on time.

Anne joined the staff of Risk & Insurance in 2012, after more than a decade as a writer and editor for our sister publication, Human Resource Executive.

Her Sept. 1, 2015 cover story “Rogue Drones” won a Regional Gold Award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

In addition to managing a myriad of tasks at R&I, Anne was valued for her talent as a writer and editor. She wrote the magazine’s monthly Legal Spotlight feature and dozens of top-notch features and cover stories on everything from ERM to M&A risks to cyber attacks on the power grid.

Her Sept. 1, 2015 cover story “Rogue Drones” won a Regional Gold Award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

Outside of our offices, Anne maintained her beat reporter credentials as a local correspondent for “The Intelligencer,” a regional paper serving Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania.

She was also a deeply committed volunteer for the Officer Brad Fox 5K Run/1K Walk, which raised thousands for local charities in the name of slain police officer Brad Fox.

For the five years the event has been in existence, Anne served as editor of the event’s race program, as well as its registration/guest services coordinator.

We at Risk & Insurance® will always remember Anne her for acerbic, but good-natured wit, her one-of-a-kind laugh, her love for her family, and — always — for her kind and generous spirit.

Michelle Kerr is Workers’ Compensation Editor and National Conference Chair for Risk & Insurance. She can be reached at [email protected].
