Relation Insurance Services Broker Lauren Erickson Recognized as a 2025 Nonprofit Power Broker
Lauren Erickson, Nonprofit Practice Leader, Relation Insurance Services
Nonprofits are created to serve a social or charitable purpose, not for a profit, but because they want to improve people and communities.
Such work can create challenges for insurance, but Lauren Erickson is not the type who shies away from challenge.
“We were just starting out as a new nonprofit with a unique risk profile. We run a restoration crew with forestry work, chainsaw work, prescribed fire — which gives us a higher risk, because you usually see prescribed burns with firefighting companies or timber operations, but we are neither of those things,” explained Lindsay Dailey, executive director, Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance.
The alliance’s old broker didn’t get to know its work, a nonprofit that assists tribal communities but is not linked to tribal government.
The renewal deadline was fast approaching, and the team was frustrated and overwhelmed. Enter Erickson.
“She was responsive. It was night and day starting to work with Lauren and her team, and they took the time to learn our operations, who we serve, our program,” said Dailey.
Night and day. Dailey wasn’t the only client to say this; Sam Chery, assistant general counsel, TSNE, described Erickson as “night and day, a business partner to us.”
Chery’s team also had an unresponsive broker before Erickson stepped in. Here, she held Chery’s hand as he navigated his first role in which he was responsible for insurance.
“In the last two years, I’ve learned so much about how insurance works and works for us thanks to Lauren,” Chery said. “Her philosophy is to be a partner first.”
