Marsh Broker Jordan Barr Recognized as a 2024 Transportation Power Broker
Jordan Barr, Senior Vice President, Rail Practice, Marsh
Marsh Rail’s primary focus is servicing its U.S. freight and transit railroad clients. That’s where Jordan Barr comes in. In his role as senior vice president of Marsh’s rail practice, he handles this unique subsector within the transportation industry, crafting liability excess and other programs for clients.
Marsh, as a whole, has a wide variety of non-railroad clients with rail exposures that require unique solutions and products. In those cases, Barr’s colleagues are his clients, and he ensures they have the necessary product and market information to effectively communicate a solid strategy or solution to their clients in turn.
Risk manager Joshua Sanchez began working with Indiana Harbor Belt about three years ago, when the company’s railroad liability insurance premiums jumped 430% on renewal. This substantial increase was partially driven by a recent large loss and the challenging insurance market, but it was also driven by a lack of strategy and limited time in the marketplace at the prior renewal.
“Jordan completely rebuilt our program, led us through a strategic marketing campaign and ultimately achieved reduction results that nearly brought us back to where we were prior to the devastating increase,” said Sanchez. “Jordan took the time to fully understand our risk and tailored a program that accommodated our needs.
“He was inquisitive but also had valuable insight into how we compared to our peers in the industry.”
