CAC Specialty Broker Grant Nichols Recognized as a 2020 Environmental Power Broker
Grant Nichols, Senior Vice President, CAC Specialty
A former environmental lawyer and underwriter, Grant Nichols brings a strong knowledge of the sector to his work as a broker.
“Grant has probably done the most difficult deals that I have worked on — including deals with really interesting excess indemnity coverage and coverage for legacy liabilities,” a client who worked with Nichols when he was at Marsh said.
“Where other brokers might have given up, Grant has always stepped up.”
One such situation where Nichols was able to step up and find coverage was when he helped a Marsh client find coverage for brownfields and other contaminated sites. The sites were highly complex, including a former railroad manufacturing plant, and Nichols was able to procure insurance for them at a lower than expected cost.
“He’s the broker I’ve done the most work with, and the best work with,” his client said.
For another client, Nichols helped determine whether they should be placing coverage for PFAS, a chemical that is frequently found in firefighting equipment and carries a risk of water-supply contamination.
While the state where this client was located had yet to take any action regarding the contaminant, Nichols was able to help his client understand how to approach this potential liability. His advice has influenced how they clean up contaminated sites.
“Grant has come up with solid, unique solutions that have driven the way we are handling our future risk,” his client said. Nichols moved over to CAC from Marsh last year.
