Aon Broker Nilza Santos Recognized as a 2023 Transportation Power Broker
Nilza Santos, Managing Director, U.S. Territory Leader East, Aon
Nilza Santos is persistent and innovative when advocating for her clients, particularly in perilous times.
Santos faced the Russia-Ukraine war’s massive impact on aviation exposures as she began the process for Kaman Corporation’s July 1 renewal.
Premiums for companies with a presence or operations in global hot spots like Ukraine were increasing by double digits, particularly after Russia seized hundreds of aircraft.
Amid the crisis, Santos realized that underwriters needed to hear Kaman’s story firsthand. She had them visit the company’s campus, where they saw K-MAX helicopters, visited the Kaman training center and took turns using the simulator.
Dina Jones, risk manager for Kaman, praised Santos’ industry knowledge and ability to position a company in a positive light.
“Nilza consistently shows her mastery of the aviation industry,” Jones said. “She is savvy and strategic in her negotiations with the markets during renewals, and thorough in communicating the structure, pricing, and terms and conditions of the renewal programs.”
Rising premiums also plagued Huntsman, a global chemicals company that supplies materials for the aerospace and defense sectors.
Santos told Huntsman to place a two-year policy if the price suited. Huntsman renewed its 2021 policy with a 5% bump and nabbed a second-year option with a 2.5% increase.
