Aon Broker Nicole Pohwat Recognized as a 2023 Pharmaceuticals Power Broker
Nicole Pohwat, Vice President, FSG Team Leader, Aon
“Even in the best market environment, it has been more challenging to place D&O cover for life sciences companies with fewer carriers willing to write this industry,” Nicole Pohwat explained in her Power Broker application.
With many carriers broadly excluding life sciences from their underwriting appetite, she aims to comprehensively understand their operations and advocate strongly on their behalf in the marketplace.
When one of her clients recently merged with another of equal size, several risk factors raised concerns for D&O insurers: their jurisdiction of domicile, recent IPO and reliance on COVID product sales.
Yet Pohwat was determined to build a D&O program that doubled the current limits each company was purchasing at a total cost below what either company was paying for their current program.
She worked with the C-suites to educate the markets on the improved risk achieved through the combination of entities and diligently address each carrier’s concerns. Ultimately, she successfully negotiated a competitive D&O program that reflected the client’s actual risk.
Pohwat’s ability to maintain a collaborative relationship between insureds and insurers was invaluable to a client whose operations fundamentally changed with the onset of the pandemic.
