The State of Tennessee rests easy thanks to the ever-helping hands of Jose Peralta.

To help manage the complex placements of the state’s property program, Peralta and his team have overseen the creation of a self-insured retention (SIR) of $32.5 million.

According to Rodney Escobar, director of risk management for the State, the SIR includes a $7.5 million per occurrence primary layer of allocated funds, and a $25 million aggregate limit covered by the State of Tennessee’s captive.

“This strategic financial risk management solution has provided approximately $21 million in excess market premiums for the State of Tennessee since its inception in 2022. This reduction in premiums continued this past property renewal as an additional 10% decrease in the overall premiums was achieved by Jose and his team compared to last year’s renewal,” Escobar said.

Tennessee is no stranger to natural disaster, facing several large events over the last few years — including a large freeze and a tornado causing $150 million property loss.

“Jose has been working with us when it comes to property claims and finding solutions to obtaining FEMA funding and vendors to assist with FEMA-related claims,” Sarah Gregory, EHS risk manager, State of Tennessee, said.

Peralta has been working with the State to recoup SIR funding through FEMA following some of these more costly events, as well.

“He continues to work with us and achieves really good quotes despite loss history,” Gregory said.
