The past two years have presented their fair share of obstacles for humanity. From an industry perspective, these obstacles have been amplified — from the impact of a global pandemic to labor shortages and more.

Despite this, Lauren Dunnigan, senior vice president of national distribution for AmTrust, is incredibly optimistic and energized about the distribution space. Her excitement for now and the future is palpable.

“It’s one of the most amazing times to be in distribution,” she said, which she credits to the mass movement being seen and felt in the M&A space. She continued, “In 2021, we saw a huge peaking of M&A activity, and because of that, distribution has changed so much in the last 18 months.”

Acquisitions have become a key factor in the opportunities Dunnigan mentioned, as from her perspective it only takes one or two successful acquisitions to morph a local or regional entity into a “key national player.”

For Dunnigan, seeing these instances of success has motivated her to help play a part in creating similar momentum elsewhere.

She and her team ask themselves, “If we have success in one region, how do we replicate that success across the country?” With this mindset, Dunnigan is bound to be an integral component of creating these “key national players” under the AmTrust name. It’s why Risk & Insurance® has named her a 2023 Executive to Watch.

The use of data and technology has become second nature to the industry; for AmTrust and Dunnigan, it is no different. Dunnigan credits data as “the cornerstone of everything [AmTrust does].” With this capability, Dunnigan can leverage data and technology to not only evaluate where success is being observed but also why.

“We’re able to share [with clients] exactly where they are, down to the line of business and region, to say, ‘Okay, here’s where we’re seeing success, here’s where there’s opportunity for improvement,’ ” she said.

Looking toward 2023 and beyond, Dunnigan shared her eagerness to keep the AmTrust ball rolling. The groundwork has been laid; now, Dunnigan wants the carrier to continue formulating and growing its partnerships.

All of this comes with the recognition that each partnership is incredibly important to the overall machine that AmTrust is churning. Though they all are varied and wide in their scope, Dunnigan doesn’t view that as a setback.

“It’s important to understand the value proposition each of these relationships is bringing, because there’s so many national relationships out there, but they’re also all different — and that’s fascinating,” she said.

Overall, Dunnigan expressed one sentiment when discussing what has happened and what’s to come: gratitude. “We’re grateful for the partnerships,” she said. &
