Blackboard Insurance Appoints John Mizzi as Head of Growth and Underwriting

In this role, Mizzi will lead the company’s underwriting team in its expanded use of data, analytics and technology to serve the needs of insureds and broker partners in the middle market of commercial insurance.

Blackboard writes property, auto, general liability and umbrella liability for companies in the manufacturing, real estate, wholesale, retail and services industries with annual sales up to $500 million.

Prior to joining Blackboard, Mizzi lead the commercial field operations at CNA. He previously had a 25-year career at Chubb, where he most recently served as senior vice president and Eastern Territory field underwriting officer.

“Data-driven analysis is foundational for top-performing commercial insurance carriers, and Blackboard’s use of technology to streamline the underwriting process is unprecedented in the middle market space,” Mizzi said.

“I am excited to work with the Blackboard team and leverage this model that enables us to quickly respond to the needs of our distribution partners and clients.”

Aon Expands Leadership Roles of Several Leaders

Aon, a global professional services firm, announced that several leaders will have expanded responsibilities in their roles within the broking and specialty leadership areas of the company.

Cynthia Beveridge, president, Aon Broking is now responsible for carrier and claims management and collaborating with global teams and will continue to drive Aon’s broking strategy with an increased focus on global carrier management.

Hugo Wegbrans, Aon’s global chief broking officer, will coordinate the company’s chief broking officer network, providing broking solutions to the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.

Likewise, Richard Dudley, CEO of Aon’s Global Broking Center, will continue to lead the company’s Global Broking Center in the UK and spearhead Aon’s operating model across teams in the UK, Singapore, and Bermuda.

Gerard Guterl and Lee Meyrick, co-leaders of Global Specialties, will now coordinate Aon’s global specialty team. In addition to their co-leader positions, Guterl and Meyrick will maintain their current Global Specialty roles as CEOs of Professional Services and Marine, respectively.

Cover Genius Hires Austin Ledgerwood as Head of Strategic Partnerships — Mobility, Americas

Austin Ledgerwood recently joined Cover Genius, a global insurance distribution platform for e-commerce companies, as head of strategic partnerships, mobility, Americas.

He will lead the company’s mobility business goals with partners in the mobility vertical.

Prior to joining Cover Genius, Ledgerwood was the head of client success at Flexdrive and was responsible for developing partnerships with ride-share platforms and large automotive groups.

Before that, Ledgerwood worked as the retail advantage director of business development for Cox Automotive.

“With a strong background in the automotive industry, Austin offers the team a unique, firsthand perspective on the challenges that have gone unaddressed in the U.S. marketplace. He recognizes the opportunities that exist within the ride-share, Peer2Peer and fleet sharing platforms, as well as the vast automotive distribution industry,” said Angus McDonald, co-founder and CEO of Cover Genius.

Fawaz Rasheed Appointed to Vice President — Chief Information Security Officer at Northwestern Mutual

Northwestern Mutual recently appointed Fawaz Rasheed to vice president – chief information security officer (CISO), where he will lead the company’s Enterprise Information Risk & Cyber security team and spearhead Northwestern Mutual’s information security strategy to protect its brand and reputation.

Prior to joining Northwestern Mutual, Rasheed held various leadership positions at global companies, including financial services.

With more than 20 years of experience, Rasheed previously served as CISO at Trustmark Companies, as well as the global CISO at Johnson Controls.

“Fawaz is a seasoned business leader with extensive experience in information security, risk management and privacy,” said Ray Manista, executive vice president,chief legal and compliance officer.

“He will be a great asset as we continue to protect our clients and advance our cybersecurity strategy.”

Heffernan Insurance Brokers Hires Matt Trenkwalder as Assistant Vice President, Employee Benefits

Heffernan Insurance Brokers, a full-service, independent insurance brokerage firm, recently appointed Matt Trenkwalder as assistant vice president in the benefits department of the company’s San Francisco office.
