Liberty Mutual Insurance Board of Directors Appoints Edward Peña as Senior Vice President and Treasurer
The Board of Directors of Liberty Mutual Insurance announced that Edward Peña has been appointed senior vice president and treasurer.
Laurance H.S. Yahia, who has served as senior vice president and treasurer since 2003, announced his retirement, effective April 3, 2020.
Peña joined Liberty Mutual in 2017 as vice president and director of investor relations and has been responsible developing the company’s rating agency and investor relationships. In 2019, Peña assumed the additional responsibilities of managing the company’s debt and liquidity strategy.
“Ed is a proven leader with the expertise, influence and innovative thinking to continue driving impact and opportunity for our company,” said Liberty Mutual chairman and chief executive officer David Long. “We are grateful for Larry’s tremendous contributions and dedication to Liberty Mutual and are committed to building upon his momentum.”
Prior to Liberty Mutual, Peña worked at ProSight Specialty Insurance as vice president of finance, leading financial planning, mergers and acquisitions, and treasury.
Prior to that, he held roles at J.P. Morgan.
The Hartford Appoints Matt Winter to the Board of Directors
The Hartford announced the appointment of Matt Winter to the company’s board of directors, effective Feb. 24, 2020.
Winter will serve on the board’s Finance, Investment and Risk Management Committee, effective Feb. 24, 2020; and Compensation and Management Development Committee, effective May 20, 2020.
“Matt brings impressive and highly applicable industry experience and leadership to the board from his distinguished career as an executive in both property-casualty and life insurance across various functions and operations,” said Christopher Swift, The Hartford’s chairman and chief executive officer.
“His range of knowledge will provide us with valuable insight as we focus on organic growth across our broad suite of products and offerings.”
Winter was president of The Allstate Corporation and CEO of Allstate Life Insurance Company until his retirement in February 2018.
Before joining Allstate, Winter held numerous senior executive positions at various large financial institutions and insurance companies.
Winter served 12 years of active duty with the U.S. Army and an additional nine years in the Army Reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He earned a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Michigan, a juris doctor from Albany Law School of Union University and a master of laws degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Goldberg Segella Adds New Partner
Goldberg Segalla, a growing law firm serving regional, national, and international clients, added partner Eric A. Fitzgerald as a leader in the firm’s Global Insurance Services practice in Philadelphia.
Fitzgerald was previously with Marshall Dennehey in Philadelphia, serving on the board of directors and as the assistant director of the professional liability department. He oversaw over 150 attorneys.

Fitzgerald acts as coverage counsel for insurance companies in state and federal courts throughout Pennsylvania and New York.

Zesty.ai Expands Executive Team with Two Hires
Zesty.ai, a risk analytics platform powered by artificial intelligence and focused on the property and casualty markets, has expanded its executive leadership team with the hires of C.J. Tinloy and Nick Allain.
C.J. Tinloy joins as the head of finance to lead administration that includes financial planning & analysis, accounting, controlling, HR, performance management and other topics crucial to building a financially responsible company with an amazing culture.
Prior to Zesty.ai, Tinloy led the finance and accounting team at Coalition Inc. She has experience with rapidly growing tech companies.

Nick Allain joins Zesty.ai as the head of marketing.
Allain joins from Spire and he brings a track record of building global brands through a hands-on approach to public relations and marketing.

Insurance Office of America Hires Michael Tresidder
Insurance Office of America appointed Michael J. Tresidder as director of surety, a newly created position. He will be based out of Syracuse, N.Y

Tresidder has over ten years of experience in the surety industry. Most recently he served as a surety underwriter for Liberty Mutual, handling construction clients across Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
“The current surety market is highly competitive in upstate New York and elsewhere. I believe there is tremendous opportunity today and into the future in our industry.
