Texas Mutual Insurance Company’s Board of Directors Appoints New Chairman

Ron Simmons has been appointed chairman of the board of directors for Austin-based Texas Mutual Insurance Company, replacing Bob Barnes who served on the Texas Mutual board of directors for 12 years.

Simmons was appointed to the board by Governor Greg Abbott and confirmed by the Texas Senate in February.

Most recently, Simmons has been the chairman of Retirement Advisors of America and a former State Representative for District 65 in Austin.

He is also a former board member of the American Legislative Exchange Council and has served on the Education Commission of the States. Simmons is also the former vice chairman of the Autism Society of America.

Cannasure Hires Jenna Keesey as Senior Underwriter

Cannabis and hemp insurance underwriter Cannasure hired Jenna Keesey as senior underwriter for the company’s MGA practice.

Keesey previously underwrote and managed the Midwest regional territory for AmTrust’s small and mid-size business unit.

Cleveland-based Cannasure is a cannabis and hemp MGA and wholesale broker for U.S. cannabis businesses, including cultivators, retailers, processors and manufacturers, testing laboratories, landlords and ancillary businesses.

In her new role with Cannasure, Keesey will help achieve sustainable growth and profit performance of Cannasure’s MGA unit. Keesey will be based in the Cleveland corporate office and report to Kieran O’Rourke, director of underwriting of Cannasure’s MGA unit.

“We have been searching for the right senior underwriter to join our team for some time,” O’Rourke said. “Jenna fits the bill perfectly and we believe she will be an asset to Cannasure, our clients and the cannabis industry.”

Thomas Zurek Joins Schiff Hardin’s Insurance & Reinsurance Practice in Chicago

Former OneAmerica Financial Group general counsel Thomas Zurek has joined Schiff Hardin as counsel in its Insurance and Reinsurance and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Groups.

Having earned his JD from Drake University Law School, Zurek has experience managing more than 1,300 litigation matters and crafting 13 nationwide class action settlements dealing with market conduct issues, race-based pricing and industrials life issues.

During his career, Zurek has successfully litigated to dismissal three California Section 17200 private attorney general consumer actions.

Prior to joining Schiff Harden, Zurek was senior chief legal counsel, executive vice president and secretary of OneAmerica, where he oversaw all litigation and transactional matters and served as president of a reinsurance management subsidiary of OneAmerica.

In addition, Zurek served as general counsel at American General Life Companies (now AIG).

Joel Fehrman Joins Corvus Insurance as Vice President of Cyber Underwriting

With over 10 years of experience in insurance, including a strong emphasis on underwriting cyber insurance and technology E&O insurance, Joel Fehrman joins Corvus Insurance, an AI-driven Insurtech company.

In his new role at Corvus, Fehrman will focus on underwriting Corvus’ Smart Cyber Insurance for clients across the Southeast.

Prior to joining Corvus, Fehrman worked for Beazley and also held positions at XL Group and CNA Financial.

Jason Gagliano Named Vice President of National Sales at myMatrixx

With more than 20 years of experience in managed care, Jason Gagliano joins the team at myMatrixx, an Express Scripts company, as vice president of national sales.

Gagliano’s role will be to build lasting partnerships with myMatrixx clients and develop new relationships to drive growth within the company.

Prior to this new position with myMatrixx, Gagliano worked with York Public Entity and Concentra, providing him with the keen understanding of how to create effective claims and managed care solutions for clients and their injured workers.

Gagliano is currently pursuing an executive MBA at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology and exercise science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a masters of science degree in exercise physiology from Northeastern Illinois University. &
