PHLY’s John Glomb Named Executive Officer at Tokio Marine Holdings
Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) president and CEO John W. Glomb Jr. has been appointed to the position of executive officer with parent company Tokio Marine Holdings Inc., effective April 1.
In addition to this new role supporting Tokio Marine Holdings’ global operations, Glomb will continue to serve as CEO of PHLY and Tokio Marine North America Services (TMNAS).
Glomb began his career in investment banking before moving into the position of senior vice president, management and professional liability, PHLY, in 2007. In 2009, he began leading PHLY’s underwriting department, and he was ultimately named PHLY’s chief underwriting officer in 2011.
In 2020, Glomb was named president of PHLY, and the following year, he added the role of CEO at PHLY and TMNAS.
Most recently, Glomb served on the global Tokio Marine task force to address the business impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
PHLY was Tokio Marine’s first major acquisition in the U.S., in 2008. In 2012, TMNAS was formed as a shared services company in support of PHLY, Tokio Marine North America and First Insurance Company of Hawaii. Parent company Tokio Marine stands among the world’s largest insurance groups, and now operates in 46 countries.
Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company Appoints Abel Travis SVP of Affiliate Operations
Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company has announced its appointment of Abel Travis to the position of senior vice president, affiliate operations.
In his new role, Travis will lead the operations and strategy of agency enterprises American Church Group LLC and Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Services. He will also provide strategic leadership to payroll and HR firm MinistryWorks.
Brotherhood Mutual provides P&C insurance to the Christian ministry market, including more than 65,000 churches, schools, colleges and other mission organizations.
Prior to taking on this role, Travis served on the executive leadership team at AF Group, a holding company specialized in affiliated insurance brands — most recently as VP and head of Fundamental Underwriters, an AF Group company. This follows roles as AF Group’s head of innovation, chief underwriting officer and VP of underwriting and innovation, as well as previous positions with Hanover Insurance Group, Chubb and Travelers.
A graduate of Long Island University’s MBA program, Travis is also the host of The Insurance Innovators Unscripted Podcast, which is aimed at leaders in the InsurTech space.

Liberty Mutual Designates Two New Chief Underwriting Officers
Liberty Mutual Insurance has appointed two new chief underwriting officers to its Global Risk Solutions (GRS) business unit. Becca Sniderman has assumed the role of chief underwriting officer for casualty, while Toby Smith has taken on the role of chief underwriting officer for specialty lines.
Sniderman is a Liberty Mutual veteran with 18 years’ experience in a range of roles across the company’s actuarial, product and underwriting departments. In her new position, she will manage product development, product maintenance, pricing and profitability for GRS casualty lines, reporting to Brandon Fick, chief underwriting officer for GRS North America.
“Becca’s experience collaboratively managing growth and profitability across various insurance lines and markets is key to our success in casualty lines,” Fick said.
Smith has been with the company for 14 years, primarily working in various roles in specialty lines. Most recently, Smith led GRS North America’s casualty and environmental teams. As chief underwriting officer for specialty lines, Smith will oversee the underwriting strategy and portfolio management of Liberty’s North American specialty lines, reporting jointly to Fick and Matt Dolan, GRS president, North America specialty.
“As we continue to grow our GRS underwriting team,” Dolan said, “it is vital to have a talented leader like Toby who drives results through experience and his expert knowledge of the industry.”
Doug Clare Assumes Head of Cyber Strategy Role for ISS Corporate Solutions
ISS Corporate Solutions Inc. (ICS) has named Doug Clare its new head of cyber strategy. Maryland-based ISS provides compensation, governance and cyber risk monitoring, in addition to SaaS and advisory services.
Clare will take on leadership of ICS’ cyber solutions strategy, leading the cyber risk product and client success teams and guiding the strategic roadmap for use cases within ICS, including self-assessment, third-party risk management and insurance, among others.
Clare joins ICS with over 25 years’ experience at FICO, at which he most recently served as VP of fraud, compliance and authentication solutions; in this role, he oversaw FICO’s fraud, compliance, authentication and cyber risk product portfolio, leading the development of software innovation and applied analytics. This followed Clare’s time as FICO’s VP of cyber security solutions, a role in which he led product development and delivery of FICO’s Cyber Risk Score and Cyber Threat Detection product lines.
