Two Organizations Honored with RIMS ERM Award for Strategic Risk Leadership
RIMS has recognized two organizations for demonstrating measurable, tangible and sustainable results through their enterprise risk management programs at the society’s recent RIMS ERM Conference in Seattle.
The 2025 Global ERM Award of Distinction was presented to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and to SOCAR Türkiye.
“At a time when risk management is so vital to success, ERM leaders from around the world have risen to the challenge and continue to demonstrate the value of the strategic risk management discipline,” said RIMS CEO Gary A. LaBranche, FASAE, CAE. “The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and SOCAR Türkiye’s ERM innovation has delivered compelling results for their organizations.”
The awards are administered by members of the RIMS Strategic and Enterprise Risk Management Council and recognize programs that demonstrate innovation, strategic alignment and sustained capability building.
Distinct Pathways to Risk Maturity
The Port Authority’s ERM program strengthens organizational value through strategic integration across its complex, multi-modal transportation operations, including airports, seaports, rails, tunnels and bridges. The organization established a clear connection between risk management and organizational strategy by implementing an emerging risk framework that systematically prioritizes both internal and external risks, according to RIMS. By combining quantitative and qualitative analysis with stakeholder engagement, the Port Authority has positioned ERM as a critical enabler of enterprise-wide alignment and long-term resilience.
SOCAR Türkiye, a major regional energy conglomerate focused on refining, petrochemicals and natural gas, took a different approach by embedding risk thinking into its corporate culture. The organization treats resilience as a competitive advantage rather than a compliance obligation, RIMS said. Using the RIMS Risk Maturity Model to measure progress, SOCAR Türkiye demonstrated significant improvements in governance, compliance, culture and organizational agility. The success has positioned the organization as a regional leader whose model is now being replicated across the broader SOCAR enterprise, with the ERM team co-leading a redesign of enterprise-risk policies for all SOCAR international subsidiaries.
Strategic Integration and Industry Impact
Both award winners illustrate how mature ERM programs deliver business value beyond compliance, RIMS said. The Port Authority embedded risk considerations into strategic planning, while SOCAR Türkiye integrated model-risk thinking into financial projections and risk-based budgeting.
