Tobias Cushing Appointed Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer at Zurich North America

Zurich North America has announced the appointment of Tobias “Toby” Cushing to the newly created role of Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer, effective March 24. Cushing will report to Chief Underwriting Officer Heather Fox and will be responsible for supporting profitable growth through data-driven insights and enhancing technical capabilities across all lines of business.
“With Toby’s exceptional breadth of expertise, we know this role will allow Zurich to realize synergies across all of our lines of business,” said Fox. “The goal is to strengthen innovation and provide even more valuable resources to empower our underwriters to deliver actionable insights and solutions to our customers and brokers.”
Cushing, based in Zurich’s New York City offices, joined the company as Head of Construction Casualty in 2022. He has held several underwriting leadership roles since joining and previously worked at The Hartford, where he served as Head of Construction for Middle and Large Commercial.
In his new role, Cushing will also oversee the newly created position of Head of Innovation, which will focus on the adoption of telematics and other Internet of Things tools to support mitigation of leading loss drivers. &
