Lloyd’s Names Patrick Tiernan Chief Executive Officer

Lloyd’s has appointed Patrick Tiernan as its next chief executive officer, effective June 1, 2025, following the conclusion of John Neal’s seven-year tenure. Tiernan, who joined Lloyd’s in 2021 as its first chief of markets, brings nearly three decades of insurance industry experience, including senior leadership roles at Aviva, StarStone Insurance and Zurich.

“My first priority has been to appoint a new Chief Executive and I am therefore delighted that Patrick will be leading Lloyd’s in the next stage of its strategic development,” said Sir Charles Roxburgh, chair of Lloyd’s. “Patrick’s profound understanding of the market, coupled with his commercial acumen and industry expertise, will ensure Lloyd’s continues to focus on delivering consistent and disciplined performance.”

Tiernan’s background includes managing underwriting, claims, exposure management, and international regulation at Lloyd’s, as well as overseeing Lloyd’s Lab and the Lloyd’s Global Network. As CEO, he will focus on supporting market participants, maintaining underwriting discipline, and fostering innovation. &
