World Insurance Associates named John Newell as chief executive officer effective April 21, succeeding founder Rich Eknoian, who transitions to executive chairman.

“World’s pace of growth and track record of innovation have been exceptional, and the opportunity ahead is even greater,” Newell said.

Newell brings more than two decades of experience in the insurance brokerage industry to the role. He most recently served as chief commercial officer at Newfront, where he led all business units across insurance, benefits and retirement services. Prior to Newfront, he held senior leadership positions at Marsh, most recently as head of the Central U.S. region, where he oversaw a business with more than $500 million in revenue and approximately 2,000 employees across 19 offices.

Eknoian founded World Insurance Associates in 2011 and grew it into one of the largest independent brokerages in the U.S., generating more than $700 million in revenue. As executive chairman, he will provide strategic counsel and support M&A activity. The transition follows a multi-year succession plan led by Eknoian and World’s board of directors. &
