Over the course of his career, Sterling Foster has committed himself to continually learning as much as he can about the industry he operates in. When a client, a retired gaming CFO, taught a class at a local university on gaming operations, Foster sat in to learn about topics such as hotel amenities, theoretical wins, coin-in, food and beverage, player analytics, and security.
“It solidified my understanding of how the properties operated to hopefully be a contributor beyond risk transfer and retention,” Foster said.
His deep knowledge of the gaming industry and interacting with executives has led his clients to view him “as more than just the insurance guy,” Foster said. “I want to be more than a vendor, and the industry knowledge assists in crossing the line to, hopefully, being more of a team member than a third party.”
Fortunately, many clients appreciate and trust Foster with this approach.
One client who has worked with Foster for ten years notes him as a “part of the corporate team” who manages a full line of commercial insurance products for the employee health plan. The client stated that Foster has assisted with complex business interruption needs and flood insurance for their properties along the Mississippi River.
In one case, during a high-water event that resulted in the temporary closure of a property, Foster helped with mitigation, closure, and discussions around procedures and protocols. “His involvement helped to reduce the claim liability and a quicker return to operations,” the client said.
