Dereick Wood, Senior Vice-President and Head of Executive Risk Solutions, Claims, Newfront

Dereick Wood
SVP, Head of Executive Risk Solutions Claims
Newfront, New York
Dereick Wood, a senior vice-president and head of executive risk solutions, claims at Newfront, recently worked with a securities trading firm based in the Big Apple. The client had a D&O claim denied during a SEC regulatory proceeding. The company realized that its previous brokers did not include entity investigation coverage into the policy, leading to significant out-of-pocket expenses. Wood worked closely with the company and its attorneys to itemize the work already done to the benefit of the client, aiming to advocate for coverage of some of the costs as an offset against future expenses related to securities litigation.
“Dereick was able to help us make an argument that spending on that one matter should be credited to a related matter, so that we did not have to double spend,” said the risk manager of the client. “The same type of documents was required in the second case, where it was a civil action covered by our insurance. The carrier then agreed to essentially cut our retention obligation in half, which was significant.” The agreement with the carrier resulted in about $2.5M of extended coverage.
“Dereick also does a really great job in terms of keeping our claims organized,” he said. “In this business, I’ve learned that communication is key, and keeping the tower updated on various aspects of the claim is important. Dereick has been very good for us in that regard.”
