If there was ever a superhero in the benefits brokerage space, Aaron Mitchell might be called the Multimillion-Dollar Savings Man.
Given how important generous health insurance coverage is to nonprofits, Bancroft CEO Toni Pergolin sought a more affordable solution in the face of rising costs that minimized risk for the organization.
She turned to Mitchell, who suggested that this nonprofit organization, which assists individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, brain injuries and neurological conditions, switch to an indexed reimbursement health plan model with reference-based pricing.
The approach saved $18 million from repricing and renegotiating facility claims. Although a big adjustment for employees, Mitchell was front-and-center explaining the changes. His efforts freed up more than $2 million to support the company’s investment in higher pay.
Another one of his clients, Dicalite Management Group, hasn’t raised monthly employee contributions across all benefits for each of the past six years.
Barbara Hladik, international minerals company VP of human resources, boasts about this accomplishment given the current state of healthcare these days.
She credits the stellar results to Mitchell suggesting after intense analysis a pharmacy benefits solution with significantly better terms and substantially higher rebates that reduced costs by about 20% and a captive solution that saved more than 20% on stop-loss protection.
The latter occurred even despite having seven high-cost claimants in the past year.
