Even when the news is bad, clients don’t mind hearing it from Jessica Thompson.

Her no-nonsense approach helped one company manage a D&O renewal after it had to submit a substantial claim, a risk manager said.

The lawsuit that led to the claim was more than five years old, however, and Thompson worked closely with the underwriters to explain what had changed in the time since.

“Because of her relationships, it turned out that it was not a problem, where it certainly could have been,” the risk manager said.

Thompson’s clear-eyed guidance helped another risk manager set expectations for his tech company’s executive team.

“In our world, expectation-setting is everything,” said the risk manager.

“She was able to push for favorable outcomes amid a really, really hard market.”

Another client has called Thompson “the hammer” for her ability to deliver D&O premiums that are better than his company’s peers.

Adding to her many accolades, her customer service was a stand out, setting her apart from her peers, according to client, Jon Stueve, chief legal officer at Coupa, an enterprise software company in San Mateo, California.

“At times, it feels like I’m her only client,” Stueve said.
