Liberty Mutual Appoints Janelle Edem as Senior Vice President, GRS

Liberty Mutual Insurance appointed Janelle Edem as senior vice president, Global Risk Solutions (GRS), Liberty Mutual’s global commercial and specialty lines (re)insurer.

 Reporting to GRS President Dennis Langwell, Edem will lead GRS’ strategic planning and process excellence work. She will continue to serve as GRS Chief of Staff, a position to which she was appointed early last year. 

 “Janelle has been a valued member of the GRS executive leadership team over the past 15 months,” Langwell said.  

“Her knowledge of our industry, business and customer expectations will be important to our long-term vision and strategy planning process. She has been a model leader, helping to foster a diverse, inclusive culture at Liberty Mutual through her active engagement with our employee resource groups and commitment to mentoring others.”   

Edem joined Liberty Mutual in 2005 after graduating from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, with a Master of Business Administration.

Edem was recognized in 2015 by Wharton School’s Boston chapter with the Joseph Wharton Alumni Leader Award and also participated in the Next Generation Leadership program from The Partnership Inc., a leading organization that supports multicultural professionals at all levels in an increasingly diverse and global workforce. Additionally, Edem is a member of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Leadership Board.

Aon Announces Appointment of Andrew Tunnicliffe

Aon plc, a global professional services firm providing a broad range of risk, retirement and health solutions, announced the appointment of Andrew Tunnicliffe as U.K. Chairman, Global & Specialty, part of its Commercial Risk Solutions, Health Solutions and Affinity business. He will take up the new role on July 27.

Tunnicliffe has over 30-years of experience in the insurance and risk management industry, covering a range of industry sectors and segments.

 In his last role with Aon, Tunnicliffe was U.K. chief executive officer of Commercial Risk Solutions, Health Solutions and Affinity. Prior to that, he was chief operating officer for Commercial Risk Solutions, Health Solutions and Affinity in EMEA, and before that, chief executive officer of Aon Global Risk Consulting.

 “I’m delighted that Andrew has decided to return to Aon,” said Julia Page, chief executive officer, Aon U.K. Limited “His primary focus will be on the strategic development of client relationships and client risk programs, in addition to providing active chairmanship of the Client Partner Group.”

Guy Carpenter Appoints Head Of Lines at GC Fac 

Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC, a global risk and reinsurance specialist and a business of Marsh & McLennan Companies (NYSE: MMC), announced today the appointment of Henry Lawrence as a Managing Director, GC Fac U.K., effective August 17.

Lawrence will be responsible for the US region at GC Fac UK. This is a new position that forms part of a wider realignment process currently being implemented across the division.

This process will see the structuring of product teams around geographic regions to ensure the delivery of client-centric solutions which precisely reflect the unique exposure dynamics of each territory. 

Lawrence will be based in London and report to Dominic Samengo-Turner, Global Head of Facultative, Guy Carpenter.

Lawrence has nearly three decades of experience in the facultative market, with a particular focus on North American property. He joins Guy Carpenter from Willis Towers Watson, where he was managing director and global head of Broking, Facultative, having spent his entire career to date at the company.

 “We are currently evolving the structure of our UK Facultative operations to ensure greater geographic and product alignment, and the development of highly customized facultative products that offer our clients a more expansive range of solutions,” said Samengo-Turner. 

“Henry is the perfect candidate to lead activities in the US for GC Fac UK and is a fantastic addition to the global Facultative team.”

 Hiscox Appoints Russ Findlay to Group Chief Marketing Officer

Specialist global insurer, Hiscox, announced the promotion of Russ Findlay to group chief marketing officer. 

In his new role, Russ will lead a 125-strong global marketing team and be responsible for Hiscox’s global marketing and brand-building activity, with a particular focus on its key retail markets across the UK, mainland Europe and the USA. He will report to Ben Walter, chief executive officer of Hiscox Global Retail.

Findlay has been with Hiscox since 2013, and most recently served as chief marketing officer, Hiscox USA.  During his tenure, he has been at the forefront of several award-winning marketing campaigns, including Hiscox’s Encourage Courage brand platform, and in 2018 was named Marketer of the Year by the Association of National Advertisers. 

Prior to joining Hiscox, he served as senior vice president of marketing for IHOP, chief marketing officer for Major League Soccer and vice president of marketing for PepsiCo. 

He has been named one of the most influential marketers in the world by The Internationalist, and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Association of National Advertisers and on the National Advertising Review Board.

“Russ has done an extraordinary job transforming Hiscox USA’s marketing program and elevating the brand to become synonymous with small business insurance in the US,” commented Walter.
