Origami Risk Expands Daniel Silverthorn’s Role

Origami Risk, safety and insurance Software as a Service technology firm, announced that Daniel Silverthorn has been given the additional role of chief administrative officer. He currently serves at the firm’s general counsel and will continue to do so.

In these expanded leadership responsibilities, Silverthorn will oversee the firm’s legal, human resources and information security affairs, while also providing strategic insight as a member of the executive management team.

“Daniel has played a vital role as general counsel and member of our leadership team both in shaping our strategy and facilitating its sound implementation,” said Robert Petrie, chief executive officer, Origami Risk.

“We’re excited about the extension of his leadership to additional areas of our enterprise and look forward to his continued contributions to our growth and enduring focus on service excellence.”

Silverthorn joined Origami Risk as general counsel in 2016, after serving nearly three years in the legal department at Trustwave, a Chicago-based cyber security company, where he last held the role of vice president, legal and senior managing counsel.

He began his legal career in 2008 as a corporate associate with Dechert LLP in New York and later was a corporate associate with Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP in Chicago.

CNO Financial Group Names Karen DeToro Chief Risk Officer

CNO Financial Group, Inc. announced the appointment of Karen DeToro as chief risk officer. She will continue to serve as chief actuary, as well.

In this expanded role, DeToro assumes responsibility for risk management strategy for CNO and its insurance businesses. She will take over for Tim Bischof.

She will lead practices related to risk governance as well as advise on embedded and emerging risks. She will continue to report to CEO Gary C. Bhojwani.

“Karen is a strong leader within CNO’s management team who already has been closely involved with our enterprise risk management function,” said Bhojwani.

“She has made significant contributions to our actuarial and product management strategy as chief actuary. CNO will continue to draw on Karen’s deep background in risk management and 25 years of insurance industry experience as chief risk officer.”

DeToro joined CNO Financial Group as chief actuary in September 2019. She held executive leadership positions at New York Life from 2013 to 2019. From 2006 to 2013, she was with Deloitte Consulting, where she led its insurance enterprise risk management and actuarial transformation initiatives.

Equisoft Names David Nicolai Vice President, Insurance Solutions USA

Equisoft, a provider of digital business solutions for the insurance and wealth industries, has named David P. Nicolai as vice president, Insurance Solutions USA.

In his new role at Equisoft, Nicolai will be leading U.S. sales for insurance products and services, working closely with insurance carriers and distributors to help drive increased growth by enabling acceleration of their digital end-to-end solutions and platform modernizations.

Prior to joining the company, Nicolai was with FINEOS, a global core insurance technology vendor.

He brings over 25 years of technical and business experience in the enterprise insurance software and services space. Equisoft announced it is excited to bring on Nicolai’s proven ability to implement business strategies around high-value core system transformations, as well as digital enablement.

AF Group Announces Kelly Fusner as Chief Underwriting Officer

AF Group has announced Kelly Fusner as its chief underwriting officer.

Prior to joining AF Group in August 2019 as managing director of Miltiline Distribution, Fusner was president and CUO with Redstone Underwriters.
